The best way to treat gingivitis is to practise good oral hygiene, although additional dental and medical treatments are sometimes necessary. Good oral hygiene consists of brushing your teeth at least twice a day, flossing regularly and visiting the dentist at least once a year.
Scale and polish
This is a professional clean carried out by a Dentist or Hygienist, this involves removing plaque and tartar that builds up on your teeth. The plaque is scraped away using an ultrasonic machine then the teeth are polished to remove marks and stains.
Root planing (debridement)is a deep clean under the gums that gets rid of bacteria from the roots of your teeth, sometimes local anaesthetic is needed when performing this treatment.
